Chat Function Management during Virtual Meetings
How many times a day do you ping out a message to someone on teams?
Do you use emojis?
Or are you a chat function master and communicate exclusively in Gifs?
Whatever your level of interaction with the chat function, we believe it has a bigger role to playโฆ
Which is why in our virtual meetings you will always have a chat function moderator or a secondary presenter whose job it is to exclusively look after that chat function.
If you have joined a webinar for example or indeed have presented one, you will have been limited to one camera.
We use a second camera shot for our chat monitor. And ๐ฅ you're not in Kansas anymore!
Here are our top reasons why you should always use the chat function during a virtual meeting or event:
๐ Creates 2 way interaction- Asking a simple question opens up dialogue with your remote audience- How is the weather? What time is it where you are?
๐ In the moment comments, insights, thoughts and feedback- โWhat did everyone think to that video?- amazing! Really cool! Loved the ending etcโฆโ
๐ Inclusive- even if you consider yourself an introvert, and do not like being on camera or talking, typing a message or a reaction is not beyond most of our skill sets!
๐ Engaging- keeps people involved in what is happening on the screen, less likely to drift off or multi task.
๐ Q&A- With 1 person solely responsible for monitoring questions and comments they can be brought into the meeting, meaning the content is always evolving.
๐ Focus- having a second person to look after the chat function enables the main presenter to focus on delivering their content really well and not have to skip between several roles at once.
๐ Sharing- we LOVE it when a conversation sparks a flurry of photo sharing- recently we were on a call and dogs were mentionedโฆand every single person ended up sharing a photo of their dogs in the chat. ๐
๐ Fun!- we have had all sorts; from internal team jokes, to nominating someone for president and everything in between. The fun is had in the connections you make with your team members and the familiarity of laughter.
So whatever level of meeting you are having- if you are running it yourself or ideally you are working with the Monsters on a virtual event!
Do not underestimate the power of the 'chat' to gain more valuable insights, input from voices you may not usually hear from, and creating more connection and enjoyment as a result.
